Ritwik Ghatak Biography

Ritwik Ghatak was a producer and director of Bengali movies. His scripts were too, equally successful. He is always regarded as one of the greatest names of Bengali cinema.

His works are compared with contemporary Bengali filmmakers Satyajit Ray and Mrinal Sen.  He has received National Film Award's Rajat Kamal Award for Best Story in 1974 for his movie - Jukti Takko Aar Gappo.

He has also received Best Director's Award from Bangladesh Cine Journalist's Association for Titash Ekti Nadir Naam. He received Padmashri in the year 1970 for his contributions to parallel cinema. His contribution to Bollywood is the script of Madhumathi, the first Bollywood cinema based on incarnation and numerous movies have been plotted with the same idea, Om Shanti Om, directly lifting its climax from the original.

The movie was directed by Bimal Roy for which Ritwik won a Filmfare nomination.
